Friends of Medicare Commends HESA Report on Pharmacare

Friends of Medicare joins our partners from the Canadian Health Coalition in applauding the the Parliamentary Committee on Health (HESA) on its report on a national public drug plan, "Pharmacare Now: Prescription Medicine Coverage for all Canadians."

"A national drug program must be done. Canada is the only universal health care system in the developed world that excludes prescription drugs," says Sandra Azocar Executive Director of Friends of Medicare. "It is our hope that we will see firm action from the federal government on an implementation plan that will complete this chapter of Canadian medicare."
The HESA Report provides a road map for the implementation of this long-awaited and much needed expansion of our public health care. We believe the 18 recommendations found in the report will help to address the inequities in access to medication that exist as a result of the current patchwork of programs found within each of the provinces and territories.
Pharmacare is a common-sense and long overdue measure that will not only save money, but will most importantly save lives.
